Style Soldiers

Men's clothing has always been tremendously influenced by the military and its uniforms. The unabashed ruggedness and sex-appeal of an army uniform has not gone unnoticed by fashion designers, so it should come as no surprise that the military look is hot and happening again this season. Bundle up in style with warm yet elegant coats, sturdy boots and accesorize with canvas and distressed leather for the final touches.
The colour scheme varies from khaki, brown and navy to even a flash of scarlet, reminiscent of the British redcoats.
Be subtle with a few extra buckles and buttons or make a bold statement with rough boots or vintage military medal pins that you got from your grandfather or found on eBay.
Don't overdo it: you're not supposed to look like an actual soldier or you might as well just put on a real uniform or join the army.

Here are some outfits and pieces I love for this autumn.

In your Face(book)!

Hello there reader(s)!
There are a few people out there who consider themselves to be 'too cool for Facebook' and maybe they are, but I know Facebook is darn handy at times!
So, maybe you've already seen the badge on the right-hand side of the site? I'd be eternally grateful if you - if you have Facebook, that is - would click on it and become a fan of the Style For Guys Facebook Fanpage. I'll regularly post fashion-related quotes there and I created an album with seasonal must-haves that I might not have posted on here because I ran out of original ways to say: 'Oh em eff gee, I need that to be mine!'.
I thank you, may the fashion gods be with thee!

The revenge of the creepy sweater.

Ghosts are creepy.
Little girls in nightgowns with black hair in front of their eyes, drooling blood are creepy.
Ralph Fiennes is pretty creepy.
Seeing a sweater that you've been wanting for a week now, every time you close your eyes, is darn creepy!

This Raf by Raf Simons sweater (225 EUR) has been on my mind ever since I first tried it on. It doesn't look like much on the hanger or on a picture but when you wear it, it looks like it's made for you. The intricate cable knit has me in a rapture.
Nothing extravagant, just heavy and pure quality screaming to be wrapped around your torso.
Being haunted by a sweater.
Now that's creepy.

Hot for Scott

Retail therapy should be an official therapy. My darling godmother (if you're reading: hi!) got me some sweet sneakers this weekend and the feeling of getting new shoes is better than the Zolofts and Prozacs of this world. Obviously I understand the risk of 'Confessions of a Shopaholic'-scenarios, but still. I've had a not-so-latent obsession with sneakers lately so when I saw these babies in the store today, I died (ask my friend, I totally did). I'm talking about the Jeremy Scott for Adidas winged sneakers ($225). Scott is known for his over-the-top, colourful and crazy designs but these shoes reign supreme. You can get them in black (the ones I love most) but also in other colours like silver, gold, white etc. You can take off the wing and the little 'Jeremy' charm, but what would be the point in that?
I once dressed up as the Greek god Hermes for a party (photographic evidence shall not ensue and I don't know why I just told you this) and I've always lusted after his winged sandals. These kicks are as close as you can get without embarassing everyone around you.
These shoes are seriously fly (I'm the master of cheesy puns, rest assured).

I'm so excited I can't even think of a good title

One of my biggest wishes has been fulfilled: my first interview!
The awesome Calvin from The Calvin Show was kind and, oddly, interested enough to ask me a few questions and then made the best article out of it.
My dear reader(s), you must go check it out here!
I had an amazing time answering the questions and I'm really glad about the outcome.
Thank you, Calvin!
And thank you to everyone who reads this blog. I quote every single Oscars acceptance speech ever: "I couldn't have done it without your support".
[Cue single tear that rolls down face for dramatic effect.]

I Die™

These Marc Jacobs sneakers should seriously be mine. Right now. I would put them on a leash and take them out for walks. Or simply put them on my feet and take them out for walks.
The grey ones are Autumn 2009 and the black ones Spring 2010.
They both are stupendous.

La Belgique C'est Chique

You guys didn't think I was going to stop after Dries Van Noten and Raf Simons? Belgium has so many more fantastic designers: some are world-renown, some are hidden treasures waiting to be brought to light.
Today I acquaint you with the magnificent Ann Demeulemeester. An intriguing and eccentric woman whose gothic and intricate designs are coveted worldwide, Ann has truly made her mark on the fashion industry today.
When you're BFF's with Patti Smith (which Ann is), how can you not design cool clothes?
I picked my five favourites out of her Autumn/Winter '09 collection, full of amazing boots and equestrian coats with a strong Victorian touch and a lot of sublime layering.
The folks at the manège won't know what hit them when you gallop by, clad in Demeulemeester.
